Our Efforts to Achieve SDGs
What Are the SDGs?
The sustainable development goals (SDGs) are international goals for the world environment, economy, and society based on the 2030 Agenda, which was adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.
17 major goals and 169 specific targets (achievement standards) are set in the SDGs, which focus on climate change, poverty, hunger, water, health, education, medication, freedom of speech, gender, and so on.
Astec Irie's Vision for SDGs
We recognize the philosophy of the SDGs and tackle environmental, economic, and social issues with our unique techniques to achieve those goals.
We also strive to realize our company's management philosophies: Environmental Protection, Local Contribution, and Worthwhile Work and Life.
Environmental Efforts
■Action policy
We plan to protect and improve the natural environment by saving energy and resources with the invention of environmental recycling technologies, and respond to the needs of our society by connecting this attempt to the development of employment opportunities as well.
■Specific examples
- Development of the production process of Li-ion battery materials
- Improvement of knowledge and changing of mindset through OJT, external trainings, internal trainings, etc.
- Renewal of equipment with good energy efficiency: LED light bulbs, new outdoor units of air conditioners, etc.
- Development of technologies for collecting and recycling valuable metals from used batteries
- Expansion of recycling amount by increasing iron chloride solution users
- Sales promotion of urban mining system and expansion of the in-house processing amount
- Observance of the environmental criteria
- Participation with recycling projects such as collecting wastepaper
- Utilization of the safety confirmation system
- Stockpile and update of water and food for emergency
Human Rights / Employment

We ensure fairness and equality in employment and are actively engaged in the personal development of each worker, which allow them to fully showcase their abilities.
Local Contribution
■Action policy
We contribute to developing people- and eco-friendly society through our corporate activities. At the same time, we are strictly against anti-social activities or forces and strive to avoid their influence.

Our Achievements
Registration with Fukuoka Prefecture SDGs Registration System
In April 2023, our head office was authorized as a second-term registered business in the Fukuoka Prefecture SDGs Registration System.
Registration with Kitakyushu SDGs Registration System
In November 2018, we joined the Kitakyushu SDGs Club sponsored by Kitakyushu City as founder and member.
Furthermore, in November 2021, our head office was authorized as a first-term registered business in the Kitakyushu SDGs Registration System.
Participation in Food Bank Activities
In December 2021, we joined a food bank activity at the request of Jiyugaoka High School.
A food bank is an organization with programs to distribute surplus food to people or places that need it.
We installed a food collection box in our head office and implemented "Food Drive" to gather food from employees who wanted to take part. As a result, we were able to distribute many food items.
Through this program, we recognize that we have contributed to Goal 2: Zero Hunger of the 17 SDGs.
